Beliefs and strategies for coping with stillbirth: A qualitative study in Nigeria

Stillbirth, the loss of a baby during pregnancy or childbirth, is one most devastating losses parent can experience. The experience stillbirth associated with trauma and intense grief, but mothers’ belief systems be protective against impacts grief. Women in Nigeria endure high burden aim this study was to describe beliefs strategies for coping stillbirth. Twenty mothers bereaved by were interviewed; seven them also participated focus group. findings revealed that influenced which originated from superstitions, religion, social expectations. These played significant roles how coped loss, providing framework sense-making benefit-finding.
